Kenneth and I decided to see Super 8 last night. We went to the seven o'clock showing and purchased two tickets, a jumbo popcorn, and two jumbo drinks for less than twenty dollars. Yes, the movie screen was only slightly larger than our television but you can go out for date night with your hubs for cheap! Great success!
2. Tehachapi Chili Cook Off...
Every June, the town hosts an internationally recognized chili cook off. We decided to check it out. It was warm and sunny outside, it was cheap, there would be food and beer, and dogs were invited. So, the deal was that you could pay five dollars and get ten tasting tickets. Each sample cost one ticket. You could buy as many tickets as you wanted and then at the end of the day you voted on your favorite chili. Kenneth and I showed up with the dogs. Of course, our giant dogs were the most popular animals at the event. Kenneth got suckered into chatting with a couple eating outside at one of the downtown restaurants. They offered Kenneth their eighteen tickets because we had "cute dogs and seemed nice" and they were ready to go home. Needless to say, we didn't need to buy any tickets to taste the chili. We also got a free sample of chili, no ticket required, at a few booths because we had cute/huge/giant/slobbery dogs. We each bought an iced tea and we spent five dollars for an afternoon worth of delicious chili, fresh air, and dog exercise. Read... dogs = free food and friends. Like I said, living in a small town has its perks.
The day ended with an impromptu cook out at our house and a homemade (crust and all) pluot pie with farmers market pluots!

Wow, what good luck! Both the movie and the cookoff sound awesome. I really must check out more local events in my area. I'm just so bad at planning haha
